Impro for June

Well today my fabric for the Fat Stash Brit Bee June block arrived.
We were told to improvise re Lu Summers.  Well this is not something I have really done before  so I had a look at her book on Amazon and had a go.
I don't think I went far enough but it is difficult when you are working with someone else's fabrics as if you really screw it up you've had it!

I think they are a little too ordered, however not bad for a first try!

Funny Old Day!

Well today has been a strange day.
Spent most of it sewing at the local quilt group monthly meet.
Managed to get my blocks done for the siblings together quilt in the morning.

Then this afternoon I started sorting out all my bear's paw blocks for Gill's quilt.  All I have to do now is add some strips in between and around the outside and it will be complete.  It has been fun to make but I must say I'm not sure I want to sew another bear's paw!! However I love this bit where it starts to come together and actually become a quilt.  Sue says I can quilt it myself on the longarm too so another challenge to look forward too!

Then sadly this afternoon we had to say goodbye to Cressie our lovely lagotto. She was diagnosed with kidney problems at Christmas and we thought we would lose her in December. However, she rallied and has been enjoying life for a little longer. Sadly she went down hill rapidly in the last few days so today we decided it was time to say good bye. We are going to scatter her ashes down at St Ouen's beach her favourite place!

Well what a busy weekend so far! On Saturday I attended a bag making workshop run by Sue. It was great fun. I couldn't stay for the whole day so elected to make something quick and easy. I think it has turned out well. Must admit I did have to raid Sue's scraps yet again as I forgot to take some bits and pieces with me! (whoops)

Then it was off to a four hour choir rehearsal followed by a concert in the evening.
What a busy and exhausting day  Now for a lie down!

Phew that was a lot of stars!

At last I have finished my stars I have been making for the 4x5 Modern quilt Bee.  Everybody chose their colours and I chose the block.  It is interesting to see how it looks in all the different combinations, although I am quite glad they are finished!

So which combination do you like best?

My other task for this week was to make a block for my Threadbias Hive#8 group.  This months Queen Bee chose a feather block. She is going to put the quilt together for charity, " Lily's fund". The organisation  raises money to help Epilepsy research: The  http://www.lilysfund.org/
What  fantastic idea for a quilt. The charity colours are pink and brown so I hunted through my stash and found some fabric I bought but never knew quite what to do with.  It is perfect. I am always amazed how the fabrics don't look too good on their own but when you put them together they look completely different.

What a busy weekend!

Well it's Tuesday already and I seem to have accomplished quite a lot over the last few days. Managed to get my bedding plants in to all my pots and 'what I call' the roundabout, ready for the chickens to dig up!

The evenings have been spent sewing the binding for my mothers two quilts.  I thought Mike might be taking then to England this week as he had a meeting at Heathrow but sadly this has been cancelled so I am not sure when they will get there.

Then I spent a lovely morning yesterday making some small cards.
I love it when I receive post from my quilting friends as there is always something very creative in the envelope.  So I decided I had better up my game!  Inspired by some photos on flikr of stamp swaps I had fun playing with my machine and attempting some applique for the first time.

However the best bit of the weekend was tea and Sue's.  Lots of goodies on offer, scones with real Jersey  clotted cream, parkin, Victoria sponge...... yum!

Thank you Mr Postman

Don't you love it when you order on line then you wait and finally it arrives! Well when I was at the knit and stitch show ages and ages ago I signed up for a new quilting magazine.  £3 for 3 issues - bargain!  Yesterday it arrived along with some fabric I had ordered as I never seem to have that right colour/pattern for my next project!! These are wonderful as they can be used in all sorts of blocks.  (well that's my excuse)

Then this afternoon when I had finished off all my jobs it was time for some sewing and I managed to complete another block for my 4x5 Modern Sewing Bee. This block is for Sara. I hope she likes it!
